Christmas in Japan and Skyping-week 3 and 4 in Japan

It's Christmas in Japan!

My Companion

My companion actually just called his parents but they were busy so he only talked to them for a few minutes, but his mission is over in a few more weeks.

Branch Christmas party

For the branch Christmas party we watched the Jesus the Christ movie, but it was daubed in Japanese so I didn't understand that much, and it made it really hard for me and the other American Elder not to laugh because it was like watching a badly daubed Godzilla movie they would move their mouths for like 10 seconds before there would be any actual words, then the primary kids (which consists of 3 kids) got up and sang one of the primary Christmas hymns (in Japanese of course) which was very cute to watch. Other than that we were mostly just talking with everyone. I think there is like 20 active members.

Rules for New Years

On new years eve we have to stay in our apartment the whole day but the day after we are supposed to go out and do something cultural with our district, so I have no idea what we are doing for that yet.

We also just got a new investigator and we have a potential investigator that we have talked to a few times so hopefully that will turn in to something.
Anyways, Ill talk to you next week,

Is there Nintendo in Japan?  Yes, of course there is!

New Investigator

There hasn't been much new this week, except that we did got a new investigator, our investigators wife decided she wanted to have a lesson so that went really well. I'm hoping that by the end of January we can get them both baptized on the same day.

Nintendo stuff

One of the Elders in my district found a thrift store and they apparently have a whole bunch of old Japanese Nintendo games and stuff for really cheap. He showed me this Japanese Nintendo 64 he got there for 500 yen which is like 5 dollars, and he said they had a Super Famicom there for the same price so when me and my companion go shopping for food and stuff we are going to go over there also.

Tonight we also are going over to a members home for dinner, and I believe a few of our investigators are coming too so that should be good, anyways I'll talk to you next week.

Skyping With Ashton

We were able to skype with Ashton on Christmas day. It was great to see him and as you can see he was very happy.

He told us that at the Christmas party his companion said "And now Elder Canepari will play the piano for us." That was a surprise for him! He said he was a bit rusty as he has only been playing hymns. He sat down and played some nintendo and other game music. The members loved it and took lots of photos and filmed him. They recognized all of the music. So that went well. He told us he loves seeing all of the buildings and the people. We have to wonder if when the time comes he will want to come home!

Japan Week 2

Emperor's Birthday, Christmas and New Year!

Hi Everyone,

so yeah this week has gone by pretty fast. Last night we went caroling around to a few of the members houses. We had a branch Christmas party which was pretty fun, today we had a hard time with shopping and stuff because lots of things are closed because today is the Emperors Birthday holiday week, which over shadows Christmas which is just a regular day for most people, and next week is new years which is probably the biggest holiday that they celebrate here. We aren't supposed to go out tracting that day, so they want everyone to clean there apartments for like 9 hours that day, don't ask me why, so Ill probably spend most of the time studying.

Anyways a few more things about my companion, he is actually 28 years old and a law school graduate. He had a career as a lawyer that he left to come on a mission, although he looks like he is 18. He speaks enough english that he can usually try to say something in English if he really has to, but he told me this is Japan so we shouldn't be speaking any English, so I don't talk much at all because I really cant say much and its really hard understanding what anyone says because we are so far out in the country and most people either speak really politely or they speak in basic form of Japanese and because we are missionaries we learned a more polite way of talking so its super hard to understand what anyone says. But they can understand the little bit of Japanese that I know.

Anyways Ill see you all over skype later!
